Mental treatment sought for woman charged with killing Montour County man after using his bathroom

DANVILLE – Involuntary mental treatment is being sought for a Florida woman accused of slitting the throat of an elderly Montour County man after she used his bathroom.

The competency issue delayed Thursday’s preliminary hearing for Kathleen Susan Reed, 37, of Pembroke Pines, who is charged with homicide, theft and possession of an instrument of crime.

Reed is accused of killing W. John Ditzler, 83, on July 21 in his Bloom Road home, five miles east of Danville.

A court-ordered mental evaluation determined Reed would be unable to participate and assist in her own defense, her attorney Michael P. Dennehey stated in a court filing.

However, Dr. Richard E. Fischbein, a psychiatrist, believes her capacity or competency to stand trial could be restored with medications, therapy and placement in a state mental health forensic unit, Dennehey pointed out.

Oklahoma Teacher Allegedly Sexually Assaulted 4-Year-Old Girl In Daycare Bathroom, Arrested

An Oklahoma pre-school teacher was taken into custody Monday for allegedly sexually abusing a four-year-old girl.

The accused, identified as 27-year-old Christopher Ribertone, allegedly sexually assaulted the child in a bathroom at Childcare Network daycare four months ago when no one was around.

The daycare issued a statement Tuesday saying, “During the summer, we were notified of concern about a staff member at Childcare Network #202 in Oklahoma City. The safety and well-being of the children we serve is our top priority.”

“Our management immediately began an internal investigation. The teacher involved in this incident was suspended without pay upon notice of the concern and has been terminated. We notified the proper authorities and are cooperating fully with the investigation. We follow all state and federal requirements when hiring our employees, which include state and federal background checks,” the statement added.

Officers responded to the McDonald’s on Highway 7 in Blue Springs, Missouri after a report of shots fired at around 7.50 p.m. on Monday, the Blue Springs Police Department said in a news release.

Man faces charges after ‘accidental’ shooting in McDonald’s

A Blue Springs man has been charged in the shooting death of a 19-year-old at a McDonald’s Monday evening, officials said.

Prosecutors charged Joseph Mayes, 20, with first degree involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action in the death of 19-year-old Harry Bowers, of Lee’s Summit, according to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Blue Springs Police Department responded to the McDonald’s on Highway 7 about 7:15 p.m. Monday on a shots fired call. Bowers was suffering from gunshot wounds. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but Bowers died at a hospital, according to court documents.

A manager at the McDonald’s told officers she is “good friends” with Bowers. She, her boyfriend, Bowers and Mayes were hanging out that evening. She was outside when Mayes ran out of the McDonald’s, saying he “accidentally shot” Bowers, before Mayes ran away, according to court documents.
