Pennsylvanians at the top for over-the-top Christmas decorating

Pennsylvanians are right at the top in planning for over-the-top, Clark Griswold, anti-Scrooge decorations this Christmas season.

According to the 2020 Holiday Home Trends Report from online interior design company Modsy, 69 percent of Pennsylvanians say they will be welcoming Santa with a fully decked-out holiday display.

That ties Pennsylvania with Washington state at third among most Christmas-cheerful states, behind Illinois at 71 percent and Texas at 70 percent, and ahead of Ohio at 67 percent.

“It makes sense many people are putting extra effort into their holiday decor this year so they can make their homes a place of joy and delight since they’ll be spending so much time there this season,” said Alessandra Wood, VP of Style at Modsy, which surveyed 2,000 people across the country to develop the trends report.

About 93 percent of respondents said it’s important to them that everyone is comfy, warm, cozy and

Toronto architecture practice designs an office with community top of mind

Dubbeldam Architecture + Design renovated this building in Toronto’s Corso Italia neighbourhood and use the upper floor as their office space.

Because it’s a mild 4 C on this overcast November Saturday, the lineup for the morning’s java jolt is five-deep at Wallace Espresso. By the time the high of 6 C is reached around 1 p.m., there will likely be more, and the lone jogger streaming past the corner of St. Clair Avenue West and Westmount Avenue in Toronto – the gateway to Corso Italia – will have turned into a group, and the door to the co-working space, Lokaal, will be glad for its well-lubricated hinges.

But it wasn’t always this way.

If 2020 has taught the architecture world anything, it’s the importance of neighbourhoods. Specifically, how to create and foster them, and then help them thrive … even in difficult times.

HONG KONG (Reuters) – Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam says she has to pile up cash at home as she has been unable to open a bank account in the global financial centre since Washington sanctioned her shortly after Beijing imposed a national security law on the city.

Beijing circumvented Hong Kong’s legislature and imposed a national security law on the former British colony on June 30, a move condemned by some foreign governments, business groups and rights groups.

Hong Kong and authorities in Beijing said the law was necessary to restore stability after more than a year of anti-government protests.

Kindergarten principal has no regrets giving up architecture five years ago, Singapore News & Top Stories

SINGAPORE – When 33-year-old Eudora Tan made the switch to early childhood education from architecture five years ago, there were many people who questioned her decision.

She had spent five years studying to be an architect at the National University of Singapore, including completing a master’s degree.

“To them, architecture seemed like a profession that took me such a long time but I gave it up after just a few years of working,” said Ms Tan.

She found the work too demanding because of the long hours involved, and decided to try something different.

“I’ve always had an opportunity to be with children in terms of like Sunday school in church or even with my nephews and that got me thinking – that I do like working with children,” she said.

In 2014, Ms Tan took the leap by taking a Diploma (Conversion) in Kindergarten Education – Teaching at Singapore
