Reality television personality and model Olivia Bowen has been working with a Welsh interiors company to transform her house from luxury home to a winter wonderland.

Originally from Chelmsford in Essex Olivia Buckland came second on TV show Love Island in 2016 with programme partner Alex Bowen.

In 2018 the couple married and featured in TLC channel’s shows ‘Olivia and Alex Said Yes’ and ‘Olivia and Alex: Happily Ever After’.

Olivia, age 26, has also appeared and presented on ITV’s This Morning and the couple have launched their own clothing brand called exempt society.

The couple have also been regularly delighting fans and followers on Instagram by sharing the journey of the transformation of their £1m mansion on the account @thebowenhome.

The couple moved into their new home in February so this will be their first Christmas together at the property.

And the latest addition to their home has been the lavish Christmas decorations to create a magical festive display, designed in Wales.

The company responsible for transforming the celebrity couple’s home are Cardiff based AM Interiors By Design.

The company was founded and is run by designer Alex Mules and clients come from locations across the UK and Europe.

Services that the company provides include the transformation and staging of new-build show homes from empty shells to luxury interiors as well as residential makeovers for homeowners.

And then there’s the special Christmas projects, bringing a touch of magic and sparkle to hotels and boutiques, as well as private homes like Olivia and Alex Bowen’s mansion.

Well known on the celebrity circuit as a company who can bring the glitz and glamour to a property.

The company felt humbled when they got the call from the couple’s agent asking Alex and his team to decorate their home for Christmas.

Alex says: “It was a real privilege that they were following us on Instagram and loved what we do. They said they love the grandeur of what we do, they’d seen previous year’s friends’ displays and said ‘this year we have to have these guys!’.

We’ve launched a new property group on Facebook.

Whether you love nosing around beautiful properties or always keep an eye open for your latest project, this group will bring you the best in Welsh homes, properties, renovations and more.

Alex adds: “They were looking to do this on a huge scale, so when we went up to meet them the only brief we came away with was to create an extravagant Christmas wonderland.

“And we are extravagant in what we do and what we deliver; if it means Christian Dior bags and Louis Vuitton bags to create that ‘wow’ hanging from a tree, then we do it!”

Inside the house the central staircase is adorned with festive garlands

Once designed and created, the installation took 48 hours to complete, but the hard work was worth it when Olivia returned home to see the finished result.

Alex says: “Olivia’s words to us was that she’d never seen anything like this before. that she’d never had Christmas decorations to this luxury standard before; it was magical, like something you’d see in London.

Outside, the home is flanked by two huge Christmas trees as well as two giant nutcrackers standing guard.

The magical and inviting entrance is completed by a huge twinkling archway over the front door.

The entrance hall is always an impressive space in a luxury mansion but the Bowen’s has been given the full-on Christmas sparkle treatment, with sumptuous, sparkling garlands travelling up each banister of the grand central staircase.

Alex says: “The nutcrackers were a special delivery to us this year and we’ve sold probably 30 pairs already.

“They’ve been an absolute huge hit this year especially because of the embellishment of the encrusted Swarovski crystals and gold leaf detailing.

“When Olivia and Alex saw the nutcrackers being unveiled from the box the response was ‘wow we’ve never seen anything like it!”

Inside there are two more nutcrackers, with these lads decked out in festive white and gold attire.

Classic crisp white tree includes material garland and bows

But no Christmas decor would be complete without a heavily laden tree.

The company has supplied the couple with beautiful interior trees, dripping with bows and baubles, lights and garlands, and even the addition of coloured foliage.

Alex says: “So there’s one tree that is a luscious blue and we carried that throughout the tree and that’s in their navy room.

“We did a frost theme in the kitchen lounge diner which is topped with white silk frosted leaves and we used a glitter which we call a drizzle.”

Alex is aware that not every homeowner can splash out on lavish Christmas displays, but there are ways to create a special festive space using nature as your base.

He says: “People are more creative this year have looked at their own homes and thought actually, yeah, I can make my own wreath out of things in my own garden.

“We went to a client’s house the other day and we did a heavy, dense foliage piece around the door all in real materials and their brief was to use as much stuff from the owner’s garden as possible.

“We were able to cut down the holly and the berries, added in a little bit of ivy along the way and we’ve fitted our own forestry throughout it, as well as pine cones and conifer leaves.”

Added colourful foliage ensure this vibrant Christmas tree is a mesmerising addition to the decorations

This year the company has joined with retail shop Queen B in Penarth to bring luxury festive pieces to the public.

Alex says: “So the affordability factor of what we do drove the idea of the shop with Queen B.

“You can come into the store and purchase individual pieces which we have used to create the high-end installations, some are available in store to purchase.”

His advice when decorating a tree to create maximum effect is to invest in a number of high impact items to your tree display.

Alex says: “We always suggest to people to use heavy, dense pieces that will fill the tree and give you the ultimate impact.

“So for us it’s adding in the silk, it’s adding in the ribbon, it’s adding in the big velvet Poinsettias, which have been a massive hit for us this year.”

The advice from Alex and his team for your Christmas decorations this year is just to ‘go for it!’.

Alex says: “It’s been such a strange year for all of us, everybody needs an extra special amount of Christmas sparkle in their life this year.”
